Rafa Prendergast
Rafa Prendergast (b. 1996) (they/them) is a violinist originally from Denver, Colorado. They were raised in a family and community of musicians who specialized in baroque music and early music, as well as the ballad traditions of the British Isles, Irish and Scottish fiddle music, and Klezmer music. They are a performer of both early repertoire and new music, and have played with ensembles across the country in both capacities, including Music City Baroque, Early Music City, and Juilliard 415. Their most recent highlights include a recital of early Italian works with Nicola as part of Gotham Early Music Scene's Midtown Concerts series, and Nuova Pratica's residency at the University of Michigan.
Rafa holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, studying under Carolyn Huebl and Maria Romero, where they were awarded the Jean Keller Heard Prize for Excellence in String Performance and the Potter Opportunity Award, and graduated magna cum laude; and a Master of Music Degree from The Juilliard School.
Rafa loves the movie Cars (2006), ice cream, and early 17th century Italian repertoire.
